Birel Rolls To Third-Straight Constructor’s Title

SevenBirel drivers score wins at final round of WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series

 

THREE OAKS, MI (September 21, 2010) –Standing on the back of seven victories at the hands of seven differentdrivers, it was Birel that secured a third-straight WKA Constructor’s Title atthe final round of the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer’s Cup atNew Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP).

 

The only “true” Constructor’s Championship award whichincludes all classes including junior, senior and junior sportsman categories,the WKA Constructor’s Title has been a sought after prize for chassismanufacturer’s for many years, offering a “complete” representation ofgrassroots karting.

 

“We are just ecstatic to have so many teams and driversinvolved in claiming this year’s title,” said Garry Lobaugh, MRP MotorsportPresident, importer for Birel racing chassis. “While other teams relied on acouple of drivers scoring multiple wins in the same categories each event, wecan honestly say that every category that a Birel was entered was wellrepresented, from Cadet to Masters.”

 

The weekend started off with a podium sweep of the Cadet 1Final led by Austin Osborne (MKP-Birel). Tristan VanWeiringen (Birel America) and Gresham Wagner (Birel America)finished 2nd and 3rd while Collin Campbell (MKP-Birel)placed 5th.

 

The very next race, Marc Miller (Birel America)completed a sweep of the Yamaha Masters class by scoring the pole, heat, fasttime and final win followed by Steve Schiewner (MKP-Birel).

 

Grant Quinlin (Birel America) scored a popular win inYamaha Sportsman Heavy to give Birel their third win of the day.

 

In the Komet Heavy Final though, Patrick Olsen led RyanStewart and Cole Nelson across the line to give Birel their second podium sweepof the day.

 

VanWeiringen then took the fifth win for Birel of Saturday,leading Mike McAndrews (Birel America)to a 1-2 finish in the Komet Jr. Sportsman final.

 

On Sunday, Cole Nelson started the day well by taking thepole and final victory in Yamaha Supercan Heavy with teammate, Ryan Stewartcoming home in 3rd.

 

In the next race, Birel scored their third podium sweep ofthe weekend with Gresham Wagner (Birel America) leading Quinlin andOsborne across the line in the Cadet final. VanWeiringen would finish 5th.

 

“This was a great way to cap off the season,” said ChrisLobaugh, Birel Americaengineer. “Scoring seven wins with seven different drivers, three podium sweepsand two more 1-2 finishes and 28 podiums is a great accomplishment. We lookforward to building on this momentum as we plan for Daytona and the 2011season.”
